I paint what I see - preferring simplicity and nature’s unusual moods. James Michael, born in Peoria, IL, and educated at Washington University, St. Louis, practiced medicine in Sheboygan, WI, until early retirement to paint full time.  His early mentors include Phil Austin, Door County and Jeanne Dobie at several locations abroad.  Michael has taught studio and plein air painting for thirty years at John Michael Kohler Arts Center, Sheboygan, and is a signature member of the American Watercolor Society, National Watercolor Society and Transparent Watercolor Society of America.
